Career Cell
The initiative focuses on helping students explore diverse career paths, develop technical and entrepreneurial skills, and improve their overall standard of living
Objective
Masoom’s Career Cell provides comprehensive career guidance, access to skill-building courses, and necessary support for night school and Evening Learning Center (ELC) alumni to secure meaningful employment. The initiative focuses on helping students explore diverse career paths, develop technical and entrepreneurial skills, and improve their overall standard of living. The Career Cell offers scholarships, career counseling, and support for both short-term vocational training and long-term professional education, aiming to empower students to break free from the cycle of poverty and secure better opportunities in the organized sector.
Background
The Career Cell was established in 2012 to address the lack of awareness and career opportunities for night school graduates.
A study by Masoom revealed that only a small fraction of Grade 10 graduates pursued further education or skill-building courses. Many students come from underprivileged backgrounds and are first-generation learners, making access to career guidance and financial support critical. Masoom launched the Career Cell to provide resources, counseling, and financial support to improve students’ career prospects and economic conditions.
Strategy
- Career Guidance: Students who have completed the Grade 10 SSC exam will receive comprehensive career guidance, including in-school sessions, personalized counseling, telephone support, a career manual, and interest mapping. The guidance team comprises the Masoom resource team as well as external counselors.
- Short-term Skill building: This program offers comprehensive support for students interested in pursuing skill-based training in various fields, such as computer operation, healthcare, fashion design, photography, desktop publishing, and animation. These short-term courses are designed to enhance students' technical skills and better prepare them for the job market. The courses have durations ranging from 6 months to 1.5 years. The Career Cell ensures that these courses are provided by institutes recognized by the state government, ensuring that students receive recognized certifications upon completion.
- Long-term Skill building: Students with outstanding academic performance can qualify for long-term scholarships. These are aimed at supporting deserving students from underprivileged backgrounds pursuing professional degree and diploma programs in fields like Engineering, Medical, Chartered Accountancy, and more. Admission to government-recognized colleges is required for consideration.
- Student Entrepreneurship Program: The program is tailored for students with a passion for entrepreneurship, aiming to equip them with the technical skills and support necessary to successfully launch and expand their businesses and become self-reliant.
